Bark for Bequia’s BARCC

Bequia Rescue Dog, BARCby Muriel and Sam Tull, guest bloggers

Bequia is home to many wonderful dogs. The vast majority appear to be happy and well taken care of. For the unfortunate dogs that have no one, it is heartbreaking to see the homeless and unwanted animals that walk the streets dodging cars and struggling to survive day to day. Boxes of newborn puppies are left by the side of the road and dogs are “dropped off” with the hope that someone will care for them. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Bequia Advocates for Reproductive Control in Canines (BARCC) has come together to offer an alternative for pet owners who may not be able to afford to spay or neuter their dogs. If we work together, we can make a difference by stopping out of control breeding. All will benefit – dogs and dog owners alike.

BARCC is pleased to announce a FREE spay and neuter program for Bequia dogs, all Bequia residents that need assistance are eligible. Dr. Collin Boyle of Unique Animal Care has agreed to participate in the program.

Spread the word! Any dog may be covered under this program; simply make an appointment with the Bequia office of Unique Animal Care, Port Elizabeth, behind the Port Hole Restaurant (457-3538). If you know of a homeless dog, make an appointment to bring it in.

We are pleased to report that our pictured dogs, “Scruffy” and “Tall Dog” homeless guys who have been working the area have both been adopted. Many thanks to all who have lent a helping hand to rescue these terrific animals.
